With Halloween just a few days away, we’ve noticed a shift toward the macabre in Paper: spooky specters in empty hallways, grinning skeletons, and an arresting image of a spirit animal. In Paper, users are combining photos with illustrated details to create eerie effects.

Juxtaposed with a skeleton, a background photo of dusty pink roses look like funeral flowers (top image), and a vacant train car gains a few ghost riders.

Here’s how to draw on top of images in Paper, and add some spookiness for All Hallows’ Eve:

  1. Open Paper, then press the “+” button to open a new page.
  2. Tap the camera icon to take a photo, or select one from your Camera Roll.
  3. Resize the photo if you wish, then press Done.
  4. Select the sketch icon (squiggle) to draw scary details on your photo.
  5. Press Done to finish.
