Fighting AI With AI
The Internet. It’s a great place. You can find anything you want on the internet. Whether it be a guide for a video game, or some music you want to listen to, it can be found on the internet. However, nothing good doesn’t have downsides. Anything on the internet can be found by anyone, whether you set it to private or not. The downside I am going to be talking about is location tracking. Whether you like it or not, companies such as Facebook and Google track your location, even when you explicitly tell them not to. They do this, and also track the sites you visit, so they can give you ads that you are more likely to click on. Many people like their privacy and do not want big companies tracking their every move. Even if you are okay with the tracking, the reason it is terrible would be because there is no choice. You cannot choose to stop the tracking, but companies will still give you the illusion of choice.
I recently tested a new app, GPS fixer, which was told to me that it was able to change the dates and location of a photo online. I tried it out, and it worked! It changed the location and date that shows up in the photos app on the I phone. the app is not for android, so I was not able to test that. When tried posting it on Facebook, Facebook displayed the fake location (Khulna, Bangladesh) I had selected. However, Facebook does not show date the photo was taken, only date the photo was uploaded. Now Facebook will track my fake location.
In short, the app worked for it’s intended purpose. It changed the date and location of a photo. However, facial recognition is still an issue. There is no way to avoid Facebook recognizing and tagging your name based on your face in the photo. Hopefully apps will come soon to remedy this. With all the new privacy apps being developed, one of them will be sure to solve the problem.
