A lot of designers think Figma is just meant for UI design and prototyping. But Figma is great for making flat illustrations and icons, and this is a great way for creative designers to collaborate in creating illustrations that tell stories and communicate ideas.

As we all know that UI designers can collaborate on UI design projects, Artist and Illustrators can also collaborate in making great illustrations that communicate ideas, and tell stories.

Manipulation tools in Figma

With Figma, illustrating can be pretty easy using the right technique, you really don’t have to use the pen tool all the time, just using basic shapes and a little bit of manipulation on the nodes in those shapes can really make your work smooth and faster.

Here is a plane icon I built using a rectangle and a circle, all I used the pen tool for was to add extra nodes in places needed.

An Illustration I made with Figma.

Once you get familiar with making real-life object with basic shapes instead of using the pen tool all the time, you will be able to make more complex illustration, by just following the simple technique I just shared. Thank you.
