Summary

Last week Saturday, 29th February 2020, Figma Africa in Cotonou hosted a Meetup on the topic of component-driven design organized by Ralph Gnonlonfoun. The aim of the event was to introduce people to the component-driven design philosophy and show them how to use figma components feature to design fast and keep consistency among your project.

Ralph Gnonlonfoun started the session by first showing how we evolved from designing a few simple pages to designing big complex systems. He talked a bit about the principle of atomic design. Then he showed how to think in terms of components when building a web app in Figma. He presented the component feature in Figma (Master/instances, Overrides, Autolayout etc…). To finish he give some real example of components and how to maintain them during a project lifecycle.

People were really amazed by the power of the Figma component features at the end of the talk. Many of the attendees were coming from traditional tools like Adobe Photoshop, so they really found value on how Figma can make them save so much time.
