Summary
On Friday, 27th March 2020 Figma Africa Nairobi hosted a meetup on Visual Frameworks. The meetup was organized by Brian Kimani and facilitated by Erick Onyango. Erick is a Product designer who works at Africa’s Talking.
The workshop was held at Decoded spaces and went on for two and a half hours. The audience learnt so much from Erick who not only touched on Visual frameworks with regards to the basics of design, he also talked on impostor syndrome and billing as a designer.
The event began with Erick teaching on the principles of design and also explained the elements of design. With this foundation set up, he dived deeper into the elements of design discussing them one by one. He also explained the seven deadly sins of design, which defaced the whole art of design.
At the end of the meetup, I observed that the session consisted of 3 different types of people. The first category being beginners in UI design the next being those who’ve never interacted with design but are enthusiasts and the last category being those who have practised UI design for some time.
The meetup attendees requested for a session on the business of design and color theory so maybe we will explore how to make this our next session.
