“My bra is Intel powered”

NYFW had a major “tech support”

Quite frankly when we think about wearable technology we don’t think about beautiful garments with a futuristic look, we think about a nerdy, kind-of-awkward accessory or gadget that can “do stuff”.

Watching the interview Fortune Magazine did to Becca McCharen, head designer of Chromat-Structural Experiments for the Human Body, the first thing I thought was “Finally”. Finally we are able to see a complete runway show that portrayed futuristic garments, not just a series of intelligent accessories. All hail New York Fashion Week!

The runway show not only had beautiful sportswear that you could actually see yourself wearing today, but a series of Intel powered pieces that ranged from sports bra’s to dresses that obtain data from your body and adapt. ADAPT, that is such a powerful concept.

It is a new era. The clothes in this runway show are meant to adapt to a person’s body according to their physical and physiological status. They will change with us, they will understand we are not the same everyday, that we breathe and sweat, they will coexist with us.

“The Chromat Aeros Sports Bra uses Curie sensors to gauge your heat level, and the bra will open vents and cool the body down. The dress uses the Curie modules to sense adrenaline and stress levels, so if stress levels are high, the dress will expand into an imposing shape.”

Feeling excited? Yeah, me too. Although this garments cannot be bought (yet) it actually means we are getting closer to having a sexy little black dress that understands we are pretty nervous at our blind date with a cute guy and will actually help us to chill and feel better instead of making us regret our outfit choice.

This is what I actually consider a real and coherent collaboration where Fashion meets technology and both come up pretty damn well. Exposure for both, the fashion brand, and of course, Intel, the technology giant playing a smart move on one of the most anticipated weeks the fashion world has.
