With new font for doctors, Figure 1 is now available in healthcare’s native language
Figure 1, the communication platform for healthcare, is proud to make communication slightly more challenging with our new native typeface.
Modelled after the archetype of doctor handwriting, Medic Sans is the world’s first dynamic font. That means no two characters are ever rendered the same way. Medic Sans is also the first typeface that doesn’t require translation: It’s equally easy to decipher in English, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese.
Medic Sans represents the next step in predictive text technology. While older keyboards offer next-word suggestions as you type, Medic Sans boasts next-word assumptions that complete the words before you even start typing.
“We expect this typeface to dramatically increase the speed at which doctors share cases on Figure 1,” said Dr. Joshua Landy, Figure 1’s co-founder and a practicing critical care physician. “Within minutes of uploading a case, you can have literally hundreds of pharmacists using our secure, encrypted messaging system to ask what exactly you meant to say.”
Our engineering team created the typeface by first scanning thousands of prescriptions from medical archives. Some were damaged by light, water, and age, but we found this made little difference in their legibility. Once we had a robust database of every possible character, we employed a combination of machine learning, artificial intelligence and blockchain-powered distributed spellcheck to create a typeface so unique, it might as well have been created in a waiting room packed with coughing toddlers.
