Hello World!

This is the first FileNation blog post and we hope the first building block of a community that strongly supports and shares our vision.

But let’s start from the beginning, what is FileNation all about?

FileNation is all about giving back the internet to the people, all about freedom and new limitless technologies to be available for everyone.

You might be thinking: “Wait a minute… is it not like that already? Don’t we have a free internet that we already own?”

Well, that was the initial idea. The Internet was born to give us freedom of expression. But unfortunately it’s not always the case. For example, in 2011, the government of Egypt ordered all access providers operating in the country to cut their international connections to completely silence the wave of citizens’ protests.

That’s only one of many examples showing that we have a censored, fragile and forgetful Web.

There is a better internet. There are technologies that can change that. Sadly, they are not easy to use and not accessible for everyone. We are here to change that. We want to make blockchain and decentralized technologies truly available.

To begin with, we are launching the first version of our product. With FileNation you can easily share your files around the world through a new P2P technology called IPFS (InterPlanetary File System — more to come on that).

FileNation — The simplest way to send distributed files around the world.

We already have a real product that is solving a real need and it’s easy to understand. This is not the most common thing in the blockchain world where you need two degrees and a Phd to understand what a company is offering you.

That’s why we are proud to say that FileNation is a product, not a theoretical one, but one you can use right now.

If you need inspiration on what to send, we like to send kitties around :)

Surely, this is only the beginning of FileNation. We are working hard to further develop our product and we have an ambitious roadmap full of awesome features waiting to be released to the world.

There is still a long way to go in our mission of empowering everyone with the capabilities of decentralized technologies.

With that said, let us show off a bit:

Even if we are just starting, we already have some interesting achievements like being in the first position of HackerNews for an entire day and collecting more than 600 stars in GitHub showing interest from the tech community

Who are we, you might ask?

We are a group of highly motivated, heterogenous, kind guys, with one clear objective in mind: making an outstanding product that makes you proud enough, so you end up wearing one of our T-shirt’s or have one of our stickers in your laptop.

We are nothing without our community, we need you, so we hope you stick around, there is more to come. We would hug each and every single one of you, but as it is physically very hard, we think about it all the time instead.

Please stay tuned and thanks for joining :)
