Film Courage: Bill, when did you start writing Chasing 3000?
Bill Mikita, Screenwriter/Filmmaker: That’s a good question because when did I really start writing. I was an attorney by education and profession. My mother died after a short illness of a brain tumor. She was 60 years old. I was half her age. I thought:
What if half of my life is over?
What did I really want to do?
I wanted to write but I had never expressed it to anyone.
I had a friend who worked at Disney, Rick Haskins. I visited Rick and he took me to see some producers. One of the producers was Barry Bernardi who has a lot of credits. An interesting guy. I think his wife is from Cincinnati. He said Well Bill there’s two ways to get into business, start as a gopher and work your way up.
I thought:
Well, I have a pregnant wife and two daughters. I hope Option B…
