Film Courage: In general what are the best ways to have an uncredited writer find script buyers?
Zach Zerries, Screenwriter/Author: Contests have always been a way to get your work out there. I think there are a handful of contests like the Nicholl Fellowship and a few other contests. I would think any writers starting off can Google “best screenwriting contest” and see for yourself and that’s one way to do it.
Early entry fees are anywhere between $40 and $60 bucks. I don’t think they’ve fluctuated much in the last 15–20 years. That’s one way to go. I will say with the contests you’ve got to win. I think if you win it opens doors, I think even if you make it in the finals. I placed in a lot of contests in semifinals, quarterfinals, even in Nicholl right. I was a semifinalist to Nicholl years back with the Pirate Hunter script believe it or not, which was a shock. I just sort of submitted it for…(Watch the video interview on Youtube here).
