Film Courage: How does someone get into a film festival?

Daniel Sol, Hollyshorts Film Festival Co-Founder: Well that’s obviously a big sweeping statement, there are a lot of ways.

One of the ways like anything, there are good things/bad things. There are good festivals/bad festivals. But as a whole you are looking to serve a certain audience and showcase good films.

That’s sort of one answer that is already being served right? So if the film is not good, you are not getting in. There’s the obvious part. I know what that means, it’s subjective (good or bad). But within that there are things like people talk a lot about run time.

For us short films are 40 minutes or less. Is a film 40 minutes going to get in? People make sweeping statements “there’s no way you’ll get in if it’s too long.” That’s not true. There are plenty of films that have gotten in that are…(Watch the video interview on Youtube here).
