If A Writer Wants Control Over Their Story They Should Outline — Travis Seppala
Film Courage: Do writers want to control their story? If so, what should they accept as out of their control?
Travis Seppala, Screenwriter/Author: There are a couple schools of thought I guess writers seem to have. You’ve got writers who think that they are God and all of these characters must bow to their whim because they are the ones telling the story. I am kind of one of those writers.
There are other writers who let the story tell itself. They basically sit back and they are just unraveling as the characters are coming up with ideas. I find that people in the second group who were just letting the story tell itself who are also the ones who don’t outline and may get lost in the trenches along the way.
