Los Angeles, CA — Sept. 2, 2015

Like many artists pursuing the dream in the City of Angels, Krystal White quickly got tired of hearing strangers voice what they believe someone “like her” can or cannot do. Her favorite comment was, “You’re a woman. If you don’t have at least 4 major credits on your resume by age 30, you’re not going to have a career.” The result? A fiery motivation to take things into her own hands, as best she can, and to focus on creating her own path.

A Greek African-American raised in California and Greece, Krystal’s love of film and storytelling fast became the inspiration behind her dreams. After earning a B.A. Combined Honors Degree in English Literature and the History of Art in the U.K., Krystal sought experience on film sets, landing on Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix and the musical Mamma Mia! She then moved to Los Angeles, where she eventually joined her first acting class and started helping A-list screenwriters develop their projects.

Krystal’s first acting opportunity was Persephone. A short film about undying love, inspired by Greek mythology, in which she starred with Louis Mandylor and Lainie Kazan (both alumni of My Big Fat Greek Wedding). The film aired nationally on The Short Movie Channel.

This past Fall, Krystal began writing her own screenplays, starting with The Interrogation, a short film in which she stars with Michael B. Silver (Leo Cohen in NYPD Blue) who also directed. Krystal’s first feature script has placed in the top 20% of entries to the prestigious Nicholl Fellowship competition, and her second has received an 8/10 rating on Black List, placing it among the 5% of scripts submitted that have received a rating of 8/10 or above.

Krystal then wrote and starred in her first comedy, A Most Suitable Applicant, which has been selected to compete at the renowned Los Angeles International Short Film Festival — the only festival with seven award categories accredited by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences. A Most Suitable Applicant is also Krystal’s first time directing, and she is excited to keep creating. “You need permission from no one, in order to pursue what you believe in.”
