Film Courage: How does a basketball player become a filmmaker?
Marty Lang, Screenwriter/Director and Assistant Professor of Film at the University of Memphis: Very slowly. I actually didn’t get into filmmaking until I finished my undergrad. My last semester of college when I went to UConn, I had taken a creative writing class and the professor had been a screenwriter. I had thought about doing it, I’d always thought it might be fun. I had worked at Blockbuster Video when I was in college and I had a good time there and never really thought of it as a possibility to make a living but thought it might be fun to take (dip a toe into) so I wrote a screenplay my last semester of undergrad at UConn.
