Making A Movie Starts With One Image — Orson Oblowitz [FULL INTERVIEW]
Film Courage: Your film THE QUEEN OF HOLLYWOOD BLVD. you say is the anti-LA LA LAND (which you said jokingly?). I’m curious if your film is more realistic than LA LA LAND? From those watching from another part of the country or world seeing LAwhich I know you’ve talked about loving the underbelly, do you think THE QUEEN OF HOLLYWOOD BLVD. is a much truer tale than LA LA LAND?
Orson Oblowitz, Filmmaker/Photographer: I absolutely think that Queen is a much truer tale than LA LA Land. I love the last 10 minutes of the movie because he’s a very good filmmaker (no doubt about it). His shots are amazing. But knowing that and filming in many of the same locations that they filmed LA LA LAND in it’s as if the world two feet to the left and two feet to the right don’t exist in his version of Hollywood. In my version of Hollywood which is where I live and I’ve spent a long time documenting I think there is a reality that is there in front of you that you have to look at. Hollywood probably has one of the most concentrated population of homelessness in the country and I don’t think there’s a shot in LA LA LAND that show one person, beyond even homeless, maybe slightly impoverished or not dressed impeccably in that area. But I just think it’s different point of views. I think were were dealing with very similar themes. The idea of the dream of success and the dream of fame and I think there’s just two very different…(Watch the video interview on Youtube here).
