Film Courage: With DARUMA movie you are launching a crowdfunding campaign on Seed & Spark in October of this year but did you also try to get a production company? [Editor’s Note: Kelli and her team successfully raised $53,000 on Seed & Spark in 2019].
Kelli McNeil, Writer, Actress and Voice Over Artist: We’ve talked with a couple of people, we’ve had interest. We’ve had a lot of people come to us and say This is an amazing. I love this! Who are you casting as the leads? Then when we say that we’re actually authentically casting disabled people (our two disabled leads) enthusiasm fizzles because again, you’ve got to look at what translates to box office sales. It’s so much easier to attach a name actor to a script, especially something that has these challenging characters to play but I don’t want to compromise the vision of this project. The intent of it is to be a vehicle and a platform for underrepresented voices. I want it to be the first of its kind.
