Last week I wrote an article about the unclear future impacts streaming movies from home, on platforms like Disney +, will have on movie theaters using the example of Black Widow. Still, I didn’t get a chance to dig into the issue with Johansson and Disney. Ever since Black Widow was introduced to use in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (in Ironman 2), it has always been Scarlet Johansson that portrayed her. In this article, we will dive deep into the impacts that Johansson’s actions may have on her career, the impacts Disney’s comments may have on their image, and how the pandemic plays a major role in all of this drama.

Johansson vs. Disney

July 29th, she filed a lawsuit against Disney, claiming that the contract was not met. From what I read, Disney had promised that Black Widow would only be shown in theaters, yet they pulled out of the agreement last minute and also chose to show it on Disney + as well. It is important to highlight that this movie was supposed to come out in 2020, but it had to be held back because of the pandemic. I personally believe that this movie would have brought in more money if the pandemic didn’t hit (which we all wished never happened); let me explain my reasoning. All Marvel fans were still trying to process that Black Widow was killed off in Avengers: Endgame because that whole time, Marvel fans have been asking for Black Widow’s own…
