Like the article says, to proclaim oneself a “cinephile” in the 21st century does not have the same exact meaning as it did in the previous one. The growth of internet services such as Netflix have reduced the admissions cost to the cinephilia club from a passionate desire to watch films and the access to said rare films to simply $7.99 a month and a good wi-fi connection. With the accepted statement that cinephilia is not dead but reinvented, these neo-cinephiles accept the fact that they cannot watch EVERY film that has ever and will ever be made, and then diverge into two categories: the mass viewer, who watches all film that he or she decides interests them, and the niche viewer, who endeavors to watch as many films as possible within a certain genre or distinction. An example of a specific viewer would be someone who is an enormous Marvel fan and then chooses to watch ALL movies made by Marvel Entertainment. In contrast, a mass viewer would attempt to see as many films released in 2015 as is possible, maybe including the Marvel films but also the majority of non-Marvel ones as well.
