Filmarket Hub’s Feature Film 2022 Screenwriting Contest SEMI-FINALISTS

After careful consideration from the jury, we are delighted to announce the six semi-finalists of our 2022 Screenwriting Contest for English language Feature Films!

Three of them will go through to the final round, after which we will announce the winner. Stay tuned for the announcements of the finalists (March 14th) and the winner (March 21st).

MEET THE SEMI-FINALISTS:

‘BARONESS’

Written by Brent Hartinger

Genre: Horror, Comedy. Country: United States

Logline: When a baroness is invited to the estate of her widowed boyfriend to meet his seven children, she becomes convinced that his plucky new governess is hiding a dark secret, and that the hills surrounding his lavish estate are alive with more than just the sound of music.

‘BE A DARLING’

Written by Megan Smith

Genre: Drama. Country: United Kingdom

Logline: A heroic act leads to an isolated young woman navigating the foreign world of Victorian celebrity and the frenzied media.

‘DETACHED’

Written by Matthew Toronto

Genre: Sci-Fi, Thriller. Country: United States

Logline: Stranded in a solitary living pod in deep space, a visionary scientist struggles to survive her husband’s unrelenting abuse in the face of crushing isolation. But when catastrophic events put her husband in mortal danger, she must decide whether to save his life, or finally free herself from his tyranny.

‘HAUNTED HEART’

Written by Mike Bencivenga

Genre: Romance, Comedy, Fantasy. Country: United States

Logline: When a struggling ghostwriter for motivational speakers is haunted emotionally (then literally) by a lost love, she must find the closure and optimism to move on so that her ghost lover can do the same.

‘SCUPPERNONGS’

Written by Lynne Ashe

Genre: Drama. Country: United States

Logline: Coming-of-age twins Sam (female) and Shane (male), heirs to a profitable Southern vineyard, ache to escape their small-minded town with its gossip about their mentally ill mother. When they both fall for a handsome stranger who’s been hired to help with harvest, a haunting family secret is revealed.

‘THE PEARL’

Written by Pelin K. Liu

Genre: Drama. Country: United States & United Kingdom

Logline: When 34-year-old Ada is released from prison for causing the death of her child, she comes home to the pieces of her former life. But when her mother’s health declines, Ada struggles with what it means to be a good daughter after failing her own.
