Dear Cinema, Give Us More Movies Like Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain… Please?
A well-crafted movie. From the cinematography, the music, the story — everything fits like a puzzle.
To tell you the truth, I don’t think I remember a time where a movie made me feel absolutely intrigued, mortified, charmed, and amused at the same time.
Then came Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amelié Poulain.
Without getting too much into the details, it is about a young woman who becomes a “regular do-gooder” after returning a precious relic. She endangers her chance — her quest at falling in love, as she struggles to be brave and take control of her own life, almost like waiting for a person like herself.
I think that the best way to describe it is that it is in every bit of Fabeuleux and more. Everything was on point. From the acting, the cinematography, dialogue, soundtrack, and storytelling, I was absolutely lured into Amélie’s magical world. Her story was narrated in such an intense yet fragile way such that none of the scenes were ever too much nor too little.
A little side note: It is in this movie that I regret not polishing my français because I could not appreciate the cinematography enough as I was focusing too much on the dialogue. Hence, to my French teacher that may be reading this, I am very so- I mean, pardonnez-moi!
