My Name is Chris, and I’m a Fan.

Since my first post talked about my involvement in Filmio as a creator, I thought I would take a moment to talk about why Filmio is exciting to me as a fan. And it is so very exciting.

My wife and I are voracious consumers of content. We watch movies and television shows from dozens of countries, with our favorites being British and Korean cinema and television. Don’t get me wrong, we love American cinema and television as well, but we hate being held hostage by the whims of algorithms and bean counters which tends to dominate content coming out of Hollywood these days.

I can’t tell you how painful it is to fall in love with the characters, plot, and execution of a show, only to watch helplessly as it is canceled. My favorite example of this is the television show Firefly from Joss Whedon.

Behold, an abject lesson.

The show aired on Fox, and it seems like they set out to destroy it from the outset. Airing the episodes out of order, changing the day and time it was airing and then, the penultimate insult, canceling it without airing all the episodes.

It was maddening. In a rare moment of universe alignment, we were able to get a movie to give us a solid wrapping up of the story, but this is a rarity. All too often these great shows are canceled and relegated to obscurity.

And that is just the first show that comes to mind. There are dozens of other examples.

As a fan, you can only sit and watch, silently cursing those in power. I can’t tell you how many times I wished I could just write a check, mail in some cash, send coins via carrier pigeon, something, to help keep something I loved going.

But you can’t, right?

Enter Filmio

It turns out if you stop wishing for something, and start building it, you can change the world. That is what we are doing here at Filmio. Changing the world of content, one creator, one fan at a time. By bringing together creators and fans, we can positively affect the content we all love.

From financially supporting the creators and content you love to helping spread the word about a new show or movie, you as a fan are able for the first time, to have an active role in the content that matters to you.

What more could a fan ask for? Not much from where I’m sitting. Not much.

Are you ready to step up and help me make this dream a reality? We’re looking for partners.
