Rest in Peace, Matthew Pritchard.
A poem by Ellie Hersey, aged 13
He was loved when he lived.
He will always be a part of us wherever we go.
He is never forgotten.
And somehow
He is still there in the classroom,
Coming to every lesson;
Hating to see everyone’s grief.
He is always there,
Watching out for his friends.
If people say someone’s ‘gone’
They never really go.
They don’t just disappear.
In some part of your soul,
He is always alive.
Always smiling.
Always laughing.
Always making sure that everyone around him is happy.
And after all this time,
Can you remember how shocked you were when you heard the news?
No.
A part of you never forgets his bright face full of life.
The friends he made in the short time he was alive.
Why did that car come round the bend?
Why was he hit so violently off his bike?
So many questions
And so little answers.
Did it have to be him?
If you feel sad that he had to die so soon;
He will be your angel to lean on
Because he is now forever an angel
And he will always be in your heart.
Rest in Peace Matthew, 1997–2010.
