Freedom of thought — How can our kids benefit from it

On a daily basis we see examples of herd mentality, group intelligence, crowd wisdom and decentralised decision making. All of these behavioural patterns are difficult to remedy in adults, hence these must be mitigated at a younger stage. Allowing kids to think for themselves, have their own beliefs system and their own dreams is what we set out to do.

With that in mind we decided to encourage free thinking in kids. To accomplish the we started using films and documentaries to engage the kids in a conversation. We showcased the movie ‘I am Kalam’ to a very large group of kids with the help of a local temple administration in Kishangarh village, the movie was followed by a discussion. The amount of engagement was astounding; the kids were so eager to discuss and share their own interpretation of movie and various characters in the movie, not only that they were able to arrive to a conclusion about the message in the movie.

We do this activity at the Gaushala Temple, Kishangarh (near Vasant Kunj) every first Sunday of the month, the next one is on October 2nd, 2016.

Here is a video from our last one, we started it with a tree plantation drive, followed by a movie and disussion.
