สารคดีที่คนทำติดตามชีวิตของXiXi ศิลปินหญิงชาวจีนที่เธอบังเอิญพบขณะมาเรียนต่อในยุโรป XiXiเป็นperformance artist ที่ไม่มีประนอมกับขนบสังคมใดๆ ตอนที่พบกัน เธอมีสามีเป็นคนฝรั่งเศส และมีลูกสาวกับเขาหนึ่งคน แต่จู่ๆ เธอก็ทิ้งลูกผัวออกไปเดินทาง ทดลองใช้ชีวิตโดยไม่ใช้เงิน ทำงานศิลปะและเร่ร่อนไป ความสุดโต่งของเธอทำให้เธอกับสามีต้องเลิกร้างกัน และความไม่เป้นกลักแหล่งของเธอทำให้เขาเริ่มไม่อยากให้ลูกอยู่กับเธอ เธอจึงต้องกยายามกลับมามีชีวิตอย่างมนุษย์มนา เพื่อให้ได้สิทธิ์ในการเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของชีวิตลูก

The documentary follows the life of XiXi, a Chinese female artist whom the filmmaker accidentally encountered while studying in Europe. XiXi is a performance artist who does not compromise with any social norms. When they first met, she was married to a Frenchman and had a daughter with him. However, she suddenly left her husband and daughter to travel, experiment with living without money, and continue her art and wanderings. Her extremism led to the end of her marriage, and her unstable lifestyle made her husband reluctant to let their daughter stay with her. This forced her to attempt to live a more conventional life to gain the right to be a part of her daughter’s life.
Her story reflects the filmmaker’s own struggles, growing up under the influence of a grandmother who made her afraid to live the life she desired, bearing the burden of being an Asian daughter and granddaughter, with moving to Europe being the ceiling . Her grandmother has passed away, but the control remains. The same goes for XiXi — her mother, also an artist, left her when she was young. In one sense, XiXi has become a mother, but in another, she tries not to be one. One touching scene is when she argues with her mother about whether they should document their performances for future use or let them remain a one-time event. This moment shifts from a mother-daughter argument to a debate between two artists (ironically, XiXi documents her life constantly but refuses to record her own performances).
The film is constructed from footage the filmmaker shot of XiXi in the present and from XiXi’s own video diaries, which she often records herself. The image of this frail and delicate Chinese female artist is stark. In terms of her art, her performances and dances might not be particularly captivating, and she may not be a successful artist, nor someone easy to get along with. However, she is filled with an immense drive to live life on her own terms and is willing to accept the consequences. Eventually, she has to work in a restaurant, find a stable job and housing to gain some rights over her daughter.
