ROMAN HOLIDAY (William Wyler, 1953) introduced movie audiences to the best that Europe had to offer: Audrey Hepburn and dramatic cityscapes littered with ancient architecture.

Wyler used ROMAN HOLIDAY to return to the Love Story, a genre he neglected after being emotionally transformed by World War II. His decision to cast opposite Gregory Peck, a European actress unknown to American audiences, proved fortuitous.
