Sumit Sinha and Nitin Nayar, Co-Founders & Managing Partners, Filter Capital India Advisors LLP

It is my pleasure to announce that Sumit Sinha has joined Filter Capital as Co-Founder and Managing Partner.

Sumit and I have a long personal and professional history. We have known each other for ten years and worked together for five years, between 2010 and 2015, as we launched the technology investing franchise at Warburg Pincus in Mumbai. During that time, we evaluated over 130 technology-led investment opportunities and closed three transactions — growth-stage investments in Indian multi-category classifieds site Quikr, Indian online auto platform CarTrade, and retail CRM software provider Capillary Technologies.

Our shared professional experience has shaped our views on technology business models and investment risk/reward. We identified growth-stage investing in Indian technology-led businesses as an underserved market niche while evaluating opportunities at our prior firm. This formed the foundation of the investment strategy we pursue here at Filter Capital. At Indian private equity firm Multiples, where Sumit led technology investing between 2016 and 2019, he continued a growth-stage approach, overseeing the firm’s investments in three transactions: Dream11, India’s leading sports gaming platform, and PeopleStrong, an HR-focused software and services company, and an IT services company (yet to be announced).

I have always been impressed with Sumit’s commercial judgement, entrepreneurial instinct, deep sense of integrity, and rapport with entrepreneurs. We have a mutual respect and understanding that comes from spending many long hours together as co-workers and peers — whether in meetings with entrepreneurs, on calls with our global colleagues, in traffic jams in Bengaluru, and debating the merits and demerits of the prospective deals which came our way. We were in complete alignment regarding the opportunities we chose to pursue and those we did not.

We look forward to embarking on an exciting entrepreneurial journey together over the coming decade.

Happy Holidays to all and best wishes for the New Year!
