I’ll admit it, I have looked up ‘How do you create free snapchat filters’ many times more than I’m willing to admit. Geofilters are pretty cool after all. It’s only natural to want them for your own birthday party or wedding or any other event. So, why not to just lookup if I can get em for free?
Well, you can’t (uh-oh). Or that’s what I found out. Anyone telling you otherwise is wrong.
Snapchat is a for-profit organisation and it sells geofilters. Simple as that. But that’s nothing new, so what are we talking about here?
Here’s the issue
The process of creating a geofilter is a tedious process at the very least. The ever confusing Snapchat updates don’t make it any easier to use create on the app. So, you either have to find a designer to create it for you or create your own by using Photoshop. This is SO 2012 isn’t it?
Well, there are a few websites where you get “geofilter templates” that are readily available. The kicker? In addition to snapchat fee, you ALSO have to pay for the design template. These range anywhere between $10 to $100. That’s just excessive now. Or that’s what I felt (again)
Here’s what I did
So I made Filterfox — a simple tool to create custom filters without having to “buy” templates
Let me tell you right now that you do have to pay the ‘Snapchat fee’ for the filter to live on the app. However, I have got free templates for you. There only a few now, but if you guys like it and use it. I’ll add more. The website still needs some improvements so I would love to hear your feedback.
