“It does not matter where you go and what you study, what matters most is what you share with yourself and the world.”

In the previous blog, I stressed upon the need to have study groups for CFA and FRM candidates. In this blog, I will write about the functioning of study groups and the benefits which a candidate can get after joining it.

CFA vs FRM: Which certification is better?

Before we get to the group’s working part, I will attempt to answer the primary question which pops up in one’s head at the time of planning to appear for an advanced certification, ‘Which certification to choose, CFA or FRM?’ Though I am not capable of providing the right answer as I have not studied both myself, I will suggest a couple of links where one may find a satisfying answer.

Why do we need the study groups?

I cleared CFA L1 this winters. I want to put forth some points by sharing my preparation experiences which emphasize on having an environment in which one can prepare for these exams effectively.

Lack of Exposure — There are very few students on the campus who are aware of CFA and FRM, which is mainly the result of the absence of a healthy Finance culture. I did not find anyone else pursuing CFA/ FRM.

Lack of Proper Guidance — During my preparation, I came across many moments when I needed proper guidance but couldn’t get it. I didn’t know of any reliable sources I could refer to clear my doubts.

After the initial month of my preparation passed, I found a connection to a WhatsApp group named, ‘CFA Level 1 prep’. After joining it, I was able to interact with other candidates. Being a part of the group made things better for me, boosted my confidence and also improved my chances of passing the exam. The Finance Club, IIT Roorkee members have decided to start a similar initiative for the campus junta.

The Finance Club is proud to declare the commencement of the ‘FRM and CFA Study Group’ through this blog.

What benefits can a candidate get?

1. Appropriate Guidance — The primary aim of the WhatsApp groups is to provide candidates with the proper guidance and a roadmap which drafts a plan to achieve a high-level preparation. All executives members of the club will strive to entertain each group member’s queries and provide assistance in all ways by sharing their knowledge and experience.

2. Doubt Solving Platform — The group will serve as a doubt solving platform where a candidate’s doubts will be cleared very quickly after they are posted in the group, which is a healthy activity leading to a foundation of strong concepts for a candidate. Manual doubt solving sessions could also be arranged if needed.

3. Robust learning — A candidate may be able to complete the whole syllabus, but practicing enough questions to pass the exam with confidence is always a challenge in itself. Sharing knowledge and clearing others’ doubts will help candidates practice more and gain self-confidence. Candidates can easily track his/her performance and progress while they study with their peers.

Who is eligible to join the group?
