How to Have a Monthly Budget Conversation with Your Partner

This morning, my husband and I had a financial conversation about our finances that did not end in a fight.
Two years ago, any discussion of finances resulted in a major fight.
My husband would tell me what he wanted and what he thought we could afford. I would share my desires for our future and how I wanted more freedom.
Then, we would just separate for some time.
Now, this didn’t change for us overnight, but it took a long time for us to realize each other’s goals and get on the same page about goals and values around money.
One of the major changes is to learn how to have a monthly budget conversation productively. So, I am going to share our formula for this conversation.
Pre-work
Before you start to have productive monthly conversations, it is first important to get on the same page about what your goals are both individually and as a couple.
