The purpose of this publication is to help the writers of Medium find like-minded writers with whom to share and critique their work.
The typical format of a writing group is as follows: one writer submits a piece to the group (usually just one piece a week so it’s not overwhelming). The others read it, taking notes, and stew over it for a few days. Each person submits their critique (independently, so the group doesn’t surrender to group think), and then has some kind of meeting to discuss the piece in real-time. Traditionally, the writer remains silent during these sessions, but your group can do whatever it wants.
The writing groups formed through this publication can be flexible so they can meet the needs of the writers involved:
- Short-term (after everyone submits just one piece, the group dissipates) or long-term (staying together until each lowly Medium writer collects their Booker, Pulitzer, or Hugo).
- Large (20 people arguing about your work over Zoom sounds fun, doesn’t it?) or small (4 writers you admire who each submit one piece each month).
