Day 228–Hanging of the Greens — Haibun Journey Beauty Each Day

Today’s beauty was the hanging of the greens at our church this morning. It is the start of the advent season and this service explains the Christmas symbols and challenges us to remember the real reason we celebrate. Even if the holiday may have had origins in pagan holidays of the time, we as Christians have reclaimed it as our own. We use the greens to represent the life that continues. The circle wreath also represents life unending. Anyway it was a beautiful service with decorations and lights and a crèche set up during the service. My family was privileged to do the readings and lighting of the first advent candle.
