4 Lessons that Can Help You Get Out of the Dumps
It’s not easy. There are new lessons to learn, and mindsets to develop. When you are in the dumps, there are these VITAL LESSONS to learn.
Get out of the place you think you are stuck in
Drew Barrymore — “Life is very interesting. In the end, some of your greatest pains become your greatest strengths”.
Easier said than done - yes. But get out you must. And how would you do that? Quite literally — move out of the place — do not stay put where you are, depressed and dejected — go into the open space and give yourself some fresh air and cut yourself some slack. Tell yourself firmly -“This is not the end of the world”! You won’t believe the power these words have; say it with conviction and persuasive faith — breath and then get on to do the next right thing.
Ask for help
Robert Kiyosaki — “One of the biggest defects in life is the inability to ask for help.”
You would be surprised, there are so many out there ready to help and encourage you. Ask! People around you are not magicians or seers, they need to know you need help, just ask.
· Ask God! Put Him first in your life
· Ask for counsel — there is plenty out there
· Ask to be heard — people are ready to listen
· Ask for financial assistance — it’s hard but you can find it at the most unexpected of places/people
· Read self-motivating books — there are loads of them out there
· Get out, take a walk, and make it a part of your day-to-day life
· Meet like-minded people and talk and laugh together
· Sit in silence and think of what can be done in the ‘NOW’
Dwell in Grand Affirmations
Roy T. Bennett — “Don’t be pushed around by the fears in your mind. Be led by the dreams in your heart.”
This can be cliché, but try it, it never fails you. Never tell yourself you are a failure — this is the most corrosive thing you can do to yourself. You are not! Soak yourself in affirmations. The simpler they are the more powerful.
· I’m a doer
· I can do this
· I’m a winner
· I love myself
· I’m strong
The list can be endless.
Let me give you a situation I was in. I quit my job and tried my hand at freelancing. It worked brilliantly for a while. Then came the slump, my funds dried out gradually. My daughter was graceful enough to pitch in. Initially it was like the most shameful thing to do — live off your kid? No! But I accepted the situation. That was a great lesson I learnt along the way — ACCEPTANCE IS KEY TO MINIMIZE THE AGITATION WITHIN. I know this situation won’t carry on forever; it won’t.
Pursue your strengths
Thomas A. Edison — “When you have exhausted all possibilities, remember this: you haven’t.”
Writing has been my ‘go to’ power pill. I have been writing for decades now. I quite often give up — but then bounce back to ‘doing’. GET BACK — DO IT — STAY ALIVE.
For example, I’ve been on Medium , though I am not part of the metered wall — I feel like giving up sometimes; but then I patronize myself as a ‘Medium’ writer and live in the anticipation that someday the ‘Medium’ sun will shine for me. Yes, it will happen, and I will carry on even beyond.
Now if that’s not affirmation and hope, then what is?
And then, always remember, YOU ARE NOT ALONE! AND LIFE IS NOW!
