Opening any news site, channel or even Twitter in general, one can hardly miss the elephant in the room — “Unprecedented” Energy crisis. If you are from the UK 🇬🇧, you probably relate way more than the rest of the world. Not that EU 🇪🇺 is faring any better. The petro powerplays, gas proms (pun intended), coal charades and whatnot, sustainability in itself has become a somewhat lesser being when faced with potential, if not actual, existential crises. Quite the bleak picture.

And on the other hand, while the citizen may be interested in knowing and embracing the world of renewables, green power and carbon positivity, information is locked in heavy textbooks, or super-technical research papers and articles. Not many have the appetite or time to declutter everything. Totally understandable, right?

So we thought of bridging this gap for as many readers as we can reach. Finding The Joule is our attempt to bring the science and technology (maybe even the math) of advancements in energy sector, be it in terms of new techniques, instruments, or more importantly, policies. In what we hope to be a simple language, we will explore the realm of possibilities in powering tomorrow better.

We’re quite proud of this logo despite individual, lets say, “unique” artistic senses.

So, why the name?

For the uninitiated, Joule is the SI Unit (International System of Units) of energy. It is also the name of the scientist, James Prescott Joule, whose discovery of the relationship between mechanical work and heat energy was one of the bedrocks of thermodynamics, the nightmare of every mechanical engineering major (Trust us, we’ll make it more fun than it sounds).

Now, in a blog dedicated to energy (green as it may be), paying homage to Joule is just about a given. The “finding” part was dealt with in the above lines. Together, Finding The Joule resonated with us as the most fitting title for our journey, one we hope will include you as well 🫶.

What we hope from you?

To read and support us, of course! ❤️ And also, we are pretty new to this whole thing, so any critique or comment, suggestions, advice, anything is a lesson and great to have. This includes our content, presentation, style and pretty much anything else. Also, it goes without saying that we can always initiate a conversation on the topics of discussion and take it further.

Fin.
