Getting closer to launch
We are finally out of the woods; our database is hooked up and emails are being sent. We have a bunch of small tasks before we can launch but we are definitely closing in. Here’s the abridged changelog since our last update:
- September: Database setup, secret management setup, error handling/monitoring setup, start of Google sign in. I believe September was slow due to not programming full-time for a few months
- October: Completion of Google sign in integration, sick 😷, testing enhancements, redesigned initial “add” functionality redesign, prototyped redesigned “add” pages
- November: Added missing item variations on “edit” pages, started transitioning mock data into database, added audit logging, researched/added email integration, researched/added task queue, Thanksgiving break 🍖
- December: Redesigned layout (original was impractical for mobile), moved to new layout, created database-wired proof of concept for all pages (lacked security/edge case testing), fixed up database misconceptions highlighted by proof of concept (e.g. bad types)
- January: Added database support for all pages in application (includes testing previously untestable cases due to mock inflexibility), started adding email support
- February (up to Feb 9th): Completed adding email support, started on small tasks
In my opinion, today was a special milestone; we added our Privacy policy and Terms of use.
Did you know that Privacy policy is legally required whereas Terms of use is mostly to protect the company? Neither did I until today. TermsFeed did a good job of explaining this to me:

Although, we wound up going with another company due to their Privacy policy being too generic for our needs. Here’s our evaluation/decision:
