CPR training can make bystanders become lifesavers in emergency situations like abrupt collapses. Acquiring knowledge of the six steps of CPR can allow you to make a difference when moments count.

Accidentally, everyone might collapse unexpectedly. The moment of unconsciousness might be extremely chaotic, as everyone might be rushing to see the collapser.

Considering you’re at a café, indulging in your morning coffee, however, there is a person at the next table who slumps over, unresponsive and unconscious. This will be a moment where you can utilize your knowledge of CPR training. This would be a great moment for you, as you could be a possible lifesaver instead of just a bystander.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR, is like a beacon of hope in the face of a medical emergency. It’s about having the knowledge and confidence to act decisively when every second counts. Everyone’s second is crucial, as those who collapsed needed to be helped immediately.

Here are 6 simple steps that can make all the difference:

Step 1: Assess the Scene
Before you leap into action, take a quick scan of your surroundings to ensure safety. Once you’ve confirmed it’s safe, gently try to wake the person while calling out for a response. If they don’t stir and aren’t breathing, it’s time to spring into action.

Step 2: Call for Backup
Reach for your phone and dial the emergency hotline (remember, it’s 1669 here) without hesitation. Provide clear details about the situation and request an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) if one isn’t already on the scene.

Step 3: Pump Life into Their Chest
Place the person on their back and tilt their head to open their airway. If they’re not breathing, it’s time for chest compressions. Don’t worry, you’ve got this! Push hard and fast on their chest about 100–120 beats per minute.

Step 4: Get AED Ready
If an AED is available, get it prepped and ready to go. Strip away any clothing that might get in the way, and apply the electrode pads as instructed. Every second counts, so move with purpose!

Step 5: Listen to the AED
Once the AED is set up, let it take the lead. Follow its instructions carefully, and ensure everyone stays clear when it’s time to deliver a shock. Safety first, always!

Step 6: Hand Over to the Pros
When the cavalry arrives, pass the baton. Give them the lowdown on what’s happened.

Thanks to our CPR training session, we’re all better equipped to tackle emergencies head-on. A big shoutout to Finema for investing in our education and safety.
