Startups get described in many ways. I love both Paul Graham’s and Elon Musk’s renditions — but one that also resonates with me is the image of running up a steep mountain: the standard pace in a startup is “go go go” and you often don’t get a chance to see how far up the mountain you’ve gone already.
On Sunday, I visited the Emirates stadium in London for the first time. Arsenal were playing and midway through the match I caught myself gazing around the stands.
In that moment, I realized how far up the mountain we’ve already come…
The Emirates stadium can seat 60,432 soccer (football) fans. And, recently, we welcomed the 60,000th user onto our platform 🎉. Picturing that whole stadium filled with our community was pretty insane. And with our email open rates being at 40–60%, Finimizers are just as engaged, if not more, as Arsenal fans are in the stadium! In fact, some of our users are so engaged that they end up joining our team (our Head of Product, for one) and others help build out the Finimize experience (e.g. creating an entire podcast of our emails).
That’s the first piece of news: we can now fill a Premier League soccer (football) stadium with Finimizers. The other piece is that I was enjoying the match with one of our new investors.
We’ve been self-funded for the past year but have now taken on outside investment from a group of people who, quite frankly, are kickass!
Today we’re really excited to announce that we’ve raised a seed round of £450,000 ($590,000) led by Passion Capital. With Eileen Burbidge (HM Treasury Special Envoy for FinTech), Stefan Glänzer and Robert Dighero (as well as the rest of their team) we have found incredible partners to join us on our journey to redesign finance for our generation. Other investors include Jason Butler, who was ranked as one of the top 100 financial advisers and is the author of The Financial Times Guide to Wealth Management — his experience is invaluable in building Finimize MyLife.
And that leads me to the third and final piece of news. We’re happy to unveil the next stage of our journey: Finimize MyLife.
