Kamppi, being a major commercial hub in Helsinki, has got its fair share of bustle. Hordes of tourists, shoppers and locals are all around Kammpi Centre and adjacent areas — walking, hanging out and sightseeing.

With so many people and activities at any time of the day, Kamppi is easily identifiable as one of the busiest places in Helsinki.

And in the middle of this hubbub in the heart of Helsinki, you will find Kamppi Chapel of Silence — a bizarre-looking, curved structure built to provide you with a period of heavenly silence that aids introspection and retrospection.

Located at Narinkkatori Square near the entrance to the Kamppi shopping complex, it does not appear to be a typical chapel at first glance. In fact, no regular church services are held here. No-one is baptised and wedding ceremonies are not held either. So it is not a chapel as such, even though there are regular prayer meetings.

Now if there is no prayer and worship at the chapel, what is it for?

The key purpose of this lovely little place is to offer you a brief escape from the inescapable outside noise. While everyone is rushing around outside, you can step inside and find yourself in an oasis of calm.
