A Good Father

Young people nowadays face a lot of problems that have to do with their parents. It’s a universal problem and you would probably have heads turning when there are mentions of there being a father who will always and forever be good. There will be people who are curious and there will be people who will rise up to challenge that view. But, I guess, that when we can experience the true and perfect love of a Father (though we cannot see him), all these argument would be meaningless. So, with that, I officially welcome you to another weekly recap of what happened last Saturday.

Cory, our speaker for the night

The entire night was led by a team from PenHOP (Penang House of Prayer), led by Cory, where instead of the usual icebreaker, worship and sermon, we had an amazing time of just worship and soaking in His presence. The theme was (though not planned earlier) a good father, whereby the youth had the need to be reminded that there is someone who is greater and is perfect that can provide where their fathers cannot. It serves not only as a reminder, but a wake up call to those who have had no experience of what it means to have a really good father.

Before the worship started, the team actually had a bit to share. Cory had shared a bit on the heart of PenHOP this season, i.e. to be in the presence of the Lord and to just worship him for who he is, in accordance to Psalms 27:4. The other team members basically shared on what the youth should expect for the night - to start something new and ask God for something (Stephanie), for a passion to be ignited among the youth - it’s either the world or Jesus (Yong Xing), to begin or refresh the individual connection to the Lord (Jessica) and for god to be real to the individual - encounter the Lord personally (Alan). Violet did not share much at the beginning but during the worship as led by the Lord.

During the worship (which was good), there were several pearls of wisdom being passed on to the youth but the general theme was that God is a good father, not was or is going to be. And that is something a lot of us fail to connect cause of the way that we base God on the experiences of our earthly fathers. Not to say that our earthly fathers are bad, but all of us are imperfect, be it father, mother or child. And as a bonus, once we understand and experience the love of the Father (though the experience is not a one-time thing), we can truly say that we are no longer slaves to fear (credits to Faith for that post).

With that, I shall leave you to ponder and to reflect on what has happened on the 25th of June, 2016 at the weekly fireBRANDS Youth Service. Thank you very much for your time. Tata.
