Seasons Greetings from Firesouls!
We wanted to catch up with you at year end to let you know what’s been happening. It’s been our most exciting year to date. And we wanted an opportunity to say thank you to our friends and supporters.
The Social Value Exchange
2016 has been truly seismic. Brexit, Trump, Jon Snow (GoT spoiler alert) not being Jon Snow. A turn up for the books.
We’d forgive you for missing our own little headline. But our year has actually been pretty big too.
We’re really proud to have brokered over £450k of resources for community projects with our platform the Social Value Exchange, from over £20m of government contracts.
In the New Year, we’ll be working with some of the most innovative housing associations and councils in the country to get more resources to where they really count in our local communities.
To tell this story here’s an article from Nesta called The Social Value Exchange: how a new innovation is breathing life into the Social Value Act.
And here’s an animation that includes our colleagues Dan and Ruth talking about why and how we do what we do.
Marketplaces and Matchmaking
In November we hosted an event at Google Campus — ‘Marketplaces and Matchmaking in Pubic Services: Can Digital Technology Be A Force For Good?’
We were fortunate enough to be joined by Cllr Theo Blackwell from Camden Council, Bobby Chandan from HPE, Jessica Stacey from Bethnal Green Ventures and Chris Evans from FutureGov, all ably assisted by Joost Beunderman from ArchitectureOO.
We use market design to make the Social Value Exchange what it is, but we’re convinced there are so many ways this approach can be used to get resources to where they are most needed in society.
Mass Challenge tech start up accelerator
We’ve also been finalists in the fantastic MassChallenge over the last few months and are looking forward to joining the alumni of movers and shakers in January.
What we’re thinking about
This year we’ve found blogs to be a great way to share thoughts and discoveries and carry on conversations. Here’s a round up of our best from 2016.
Aggressively Human: the future of online marketplaces? | Huffington Post
Let the doers act | RSA
We’re always looking to have conversations with people who share our vision to empower local communities using the Social Value Act.
Please feel free to get in touch if you are interested in exploring this with us.
And finally… thank you
To all our friends and colleagues for helping make 2016 our best year yet! Special mentions to our friends at BGV, Genesis and Aloha. We could not have done it without you. Seriously. Have a fantastic holiday season.
