The wait is over! After a team beach trip to celebrate our iOS release, we’ve been hard at work in our little studio revising Rough Draft with a fresh set of eyes and rested minds!

The big point of this update is the little things you might not notice. So without much adieu, here’s a laundry list of the updates in this new set of releases for Rough Draft Mac & iOS:

Bugs & Crashes

First off, many thanks to each of you who have experienced bugs and have reached out to let us know about them. We’ve fixed a number of issues related to onboarding and deleting drafts, have stabilized syncing, and have made notes easier to use.

An All New Writing Engine

One of the most important parts of this update is something you won’t notice: our new writing engine. Now you can focus on your writing with some tech under the hood that is fast and smooth as (insert reputable car engine metaphor here).

One thing you may notice, cooling now spans multiple words, and lasts a bit longer, so life’s little typos are easier to fix 📝

Many writers have also asked to be able to delete punctuation. Whether you’ve decided to keep things short and to the point by replacing that comma with a period, or just want to take things on and on, sentence closing punctuation can now be completely deleted. Period. 😉

New Characters for Your Writing!

We’re also welcoming a few hundred new “characters” to Rough Draft
that’s right, all the many characters that make up the emoji universe we all love can now we inserted into your drafts 😎👍🎉 (we ❀ them probably a little too much 😜).

Bonjour to All New Writers

We’re also welcoming new friends from abroad, too! Say “Bonjour” to all our French-speaking friends, as Rough Draft is now localized for speakers of đŸ‡«đŸ‡· the language of ❀ Oh lĂ  lĂ !

Not too mention our new fashionable settings screen :)

Make sure to share it with your French speaking friends too!

Support For More Devices & Orientations

Rough Draft for iPhone and iPad is now available in both landscape and portrait modes.

We’ve also added in iPad Pro optimizations, like split screen and extended keyboard support.

Also, look out for some new icons, as we’ve changed up the design a little bit!

Unlocking Rough Draft

Rough Draft can now be purchased just once, on one device, and unlocked across all your devices, making the decision to purchase simple and straight forward!

And for those of you who’ve purchased Rough Draft on both your macOS and iOS devices before, fear not: the price for the new one-time purchase is the same as the dual purchases from yestermonth 😉)

And Giving More

And for new users, we save the best for last: You’ll also be able to export 3 of your drafts clean for free.

What’s more? You have been endowed with the ability to sync between macOS and iOS devices, free of charge! Egads! You can now get lost in Rough Draft, let your writing flow, and not worry about it being locked in.

Mini Medium

Almost forgot, now just like on the desktop version of Rough Draft you can export direct to Medium from your iOS device too!

Wrapping Up

Phew! That was a handful!

We sincerely hope you enjoy everything that Rough Draft has to offer. The single most important thing for us is to make sure you enjoy Rough Draft, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to us through Rough Draft’s in-app messaging system (thanks Intercom!), or through the Rough Draft homepage.

And as always, we want to know all about the amazing stories you’re writing with Rough Draft. Please shoot us a message and let us know what you’re working on!

Happy Drafting ✍
