The Benefits of Intermittent Fasting
Jane E. Brody | NYT
I have been doing intermittent fasting for 4 months now and have seen health benefits in my own life. I think it’s an interesting concept that has at least some basis in evolutionary biology; our ancestors did not always eat three meals a day at preset times. They were hunters and gathers, which means that there were periods of abundance after a successful hunt, and also periods of famine when hunting game became scarce. At an intuitive level, it makes sense to me that it takes a very long time for our bodies to evolutionarily adapt to the dramatic changes in ecosystem and living conditions brought about by the digital millennium of the twenty-first century.
