Week of June 20th, 2021: “Somewhere Deep”
He made it through without a guide, at first I wasn’t sure, even though I knew how hard he would try.
He’s an honest man, not someone drawn in by flashy asides. He prefers the comforts of his home and all it provides.
He rarely drinks, he doesn’t lie. As his condition improved and the weather began to get warmer, he woke each morning before the sun and took the dogs out for a ride.
Yet, despite all he had been through- the tears that he had at some point undoubtedly cried, he has never once said that if he knew what he was signing up for back then that he never would have applied.
He can get flustered and angry. He’s quietly strong. I’m glad I’ve gotten to know him better and apologize for all the times I was wrong.
Watching him over the years taught me lessons that I will always get to keep. It’s helped me to look at life in new ways; how to escape somewhere deep.
