An aged man of Italian descent who gives off the aura of a mafia don sits at a table in an outdoor cafe in France. With him is a short, plump, healthy woman in her 80’s and an attractive blonde-haired woman in her 40’s. The situation is tense, and the mood is ominous.

Author’s Note: While this story is set as a stand-alone and an answer to the First Line Fiction prompt from the fabulous Liberty Forrest, it is also the continuation of a story prompted by Nevena Pascaleva (whom I consider one the finest writers I’ve ever read) and her new-blue story pub, Tales of Blue. The last time she saw him, he swore he’d never return — and foolishly, she had believed him. All she had to do was walk away from the love of her life, and she would be safe, but there was no mistaking it was Stefano seated at the patio of Café Kleber, and there was little chance that he wouldn’t recognize her immediately.

Of course, that’s precisely why he chose the quaint eatery at 48 Rue de Vieux Marché aux Vins…
