A note from your editor.

As it’s the end of the month, let’s start with stats. September saw FLF receive 1.8K views and 513 reads — not great, but considering a fair drop in submissions, not entirely terrible.

Still, I hoped that with the extra off-platform promotions via FB, Bluesky and Instagram, First Line Fiction writers would receive more attention. The published stories certainly deserve at least that.

Part of me wants to bellyache about it, but I’m too stubborn and regularly ignore negative news, so I’ll dust off our third-worst month of the year and move into the chilly season, hoping that lower temps will keep writers at their desks and readers at their screens.

Regarding Medium’s upgrades to the submission portal, most of the bugs have been worked out. Delays in the submission process have been reduced, and published pieces now populate the homepage much sooner than before. However, some lag time remains. Communication with Medium support has been positive and ongoing. I appreciate everyone’s patience.
