First Line Fiction Editor’s Update #11
Highlighting a talented writer with a wise voice and a good soul
Let me introduce you to Mary. A Californian currently displaced by the L.A. wildfires that claimed her home as one of its victims. An educator, humanitarian, patriot, and activist for democracy and human rights. She is a world traveller, recorder and advocate of less fortunate societies. Mary is a champion of the poor, a mentor and a humble observer — a wife, mother and grandmother.
Publishing as , Mary is an accomplished essayist with a strong voice and unambiguous views. What I particularly appreciate is that her essays bring good discourse and that she is willing to listen to other POVs, accepting them for their intent and then defending her position. Several times, I have engaged in those discussions, sprinkling some salt onto her plate, but I’m careful because Mary has the educational and life experience to stand on.
Being an excellent writer, Mary has also penned some fiction. I would love to see more of that endeavour because her work is good. Very good. This week’s editor’s choice feature story is just such an example.
