I’m a little late, I admit, but I have a good reason (other than forgetting what day of the week it is). Yesterday was my birthday, and one of our Canadian hockey teams put on an epic display of playoff nerve-wracking havoc before claiming victory in double overtime. Then, there was work, which decided to be annoying for the duration of my shift. Last but not least, I have a cold, which is normal for me at the change of each season.

However, not being one to succumb to such obstacles, I forged ahead before bed to add this week’s feature story, which Medium promises to distribute across a wider expanse of its readership.

We haven’t seen that much from

, but even with the small sampling of her writing, it’s easy to see she can weave a tale well worth reading. My hope in featuring stories, especially ones like this that garnered far too few reads on the first go-round, is to have new life breathed into them and encourage our writers to return their fingers to the keyboard.

Jessica’s story grabbed me from the start and carried me along to its dramatic conclusion. I don’t want to give away any more than that — I want you to read it and find out!
