Are you ready to jump into your wellness resolutions for 2018 and start to improve your energy levels and your mood in the new year? You are in the right place. In fact, you already have taken the first step to wellness by researching the best means to create and accomplish new wellness goals in recovery. Step 1: Research. Check! You’re on your way.

Here’s what you can do right now in this moment to take the next step toward your wellness resolutions in 2018:

1. Start moving. If you are often sedentary, one of the best wellness goals you can make to boost your recovery is to move more often. This does not have to mean committing to a gym session every day. Get up right now and vacuum or mop, put on some music and dance, or turn on a YouTube workout video. Even if it’s just for 10 minutes, you just took a step toward better heart health and a better mood.

2. Eat a vegetable. Grab some carrots and dip them in hummus. Put a smear of peanut butter on a few celery sticks. Rip up some kale, throw it on a baking sheet, and sprinkle olive oil and salt on top; then bake for about 20 minutes until crispy. Don’t have any of this stuff on hand? Head to the store now and pick up a few veggies to get you started.

3. Share your wellness goals. Post on your social media forum of choice, start a blog to track your progress, or text a friend or family member to let them know what your wellness and recovery resolution is this year. Let people know what you plan to do, and if you could use a partner, just ask.

4. Set up reminders. Is your wellness goal to drink more water throughout the day? Set a reminder on your phone to drink a full glass every few hours to keep you on track. Want to get up early and go for a walk, or make yourself a healthy breakfast to start your day? Set your alarm to get up early now.

5. Inspire yourself. Put post-it notes on your mirror to remind you of your goals so they are the first things you see in the morning and the last thing you see before you go to bed at night. Download an app that will send you inspirational quotes or pictures throughout the day. Make a “dream board” with pictures, quotes, and more of what you would like to create for yourself in recovery. Set yourself up for success by staying focused on all you have to gain by sticking with your new goals.
