As a lead UX designer in the FinTech world, I’ve spent a lot of time knee-deep in data visualization. Over the past few months, I’ve done my homework, peeking over the shoulders of experts, reading articles, and seeing what really works out there. Here’s the kicker: you don’t need a ton of different types of charts. Stick to the basics: bar charts, line charts, and scatter plots. Trust me, it’s in the data.

Why Keep It Simple?

The main point of data visualization is to make your data easy to understand. Fancy, complex charts might look like they could solve world peace, but they often make things harder to grasp. Simple charts are like the jeans and t-shirt of data visualization — they’re quick to read, easy to interpret, and your audience will thank you for sparing them the confusion.
