The Fishcoin enabled mFish application just got an upgrade. We’re constantly striving to make all our products as intuitive and easy to use as possible, so we will always be innovating with new and enhanced features and improving our user experience as we work on our mission to transform supply chains to be more sustainable, responsible, equitable and profitable. Importantly though, we will always be listening to our users — and if we get something wrong we’re not afraid to change it, so please share your feedback!

For this update, we leapfrogged Ionic version four and went straight to Ionic 5 to improve the application’s performance, and we made some significant interface changes that will improve our user experience and allow for faster updates going forward. This is just the beginning of our upgrade journey and we’re excited to share this version and about the additions and enhancements due in the coming weeks!

So what’s new and what’s next?

Navigation & Home Screen

The biggest UI change is in navigation, designed to be more intuitive and make performing the most common tasks much easier. We’re aiming for the look and feel of a modern, tokenized distributed app that reflects the purpose and usage of Fishcoin.

When users sign in to the application the first difference they will see is the removal of the hamburger button in the top left corner for revealing the main menu. Instead we have introduced a number of tabs at the bottom of the screen for performing the most common tasks — transferring records (the most used, default/home screen), wallet functions and redeeming Fishcoin. All other functions and options are accessed through the Settings button at the bottom, including modifying their user profile.

The menu options have switched from a side bar (left) to icons at the base of the screen.

Species Selection

The species selection experience has been enhanced with a search function, regularly selected species appearing at the top of the screen, and the ability to enter “Other” and then type the name of a species that isn’t in the species list. All of this is designed to speed up the entry of new harvest data, rather than be a cumbersome task that can cause users to revert back to the “old ways” and miss out on the incentives provided by Fishcoin.

Rather than having to scroll down a long list of species, a search function speeds up the species selection process, and the option to select “Other” option and type in unlisted species

Wallet, Transfer & Buy Fishcoin Tokens

In the old version the wallet was accessed via an icon positioned in the top right corner. When tapped users would see the balance and have the option to Buy Fishcoin tokens. To transfer tokens from one wallet to another, users would need to go to the main menu and tap on Transfer Fishcoins. In the new version users can see their balance and transfer tokens after tapping on the Wallet icon at the bottom. To buy Fishcoin tokens, users now tap on Settings and then tap on Buy Fishcoin — a function that mobile phone users like fishers and farmers are less likely to use as they will be receiving tokens from buyers of their harvest data.

The Wallet can now be accessed from main menu and provides more commonly used functions for mobile phone users — checking their balance and transferring Fishcoin tokens.

In addition to the above there are a number of other improvements to the user experience — but it is a continual journey of improvement so if you notice areas in need of improvement please let us know. And stay tuned because more improvements are in the pipeline, including a further-enhanced Wallet experience and a really exciting upgrade to the redemption offerings that will bring far greater utility to the Fishcoin token!
