The 2018 World Ocean Summit
The fifth World Ocean Summit, sponsored by The Economist, was held “to grapple with some of the ocean’s most intractable problems — and explore new possibilities.”
Since 2012, The Economist Group has hosted the World Ocean Summit, in an effort to convene global leaders from government, industry, multilateral organizations, the scientific community and civil society with the objective of exploring issues that affect the health of our ocean. This event includes topics such as sustainable seafood, ocean finance, marine debris, blue economy clusters, ocean governance and technology for the ocean. The purpose of the event is to highlight key issues and identify new solutions that can accelerate our global society’s transition to sustainably using and managing the ocean.
Why were we there?
The World Ocean Summit is one of the more influential events each year insofar as global influencers from throughout the world all come together in one room to discuss important trends in ocean conservation. As with many of the events we have been to this year, blockchain has been a big focus as leaders are realizing the potential of this technology to empower new solutions to existing challenges. Our goal was to connect with innovative governments, companies and organizations that are interested in participating in early pilots of Fishcoin. In the coming weeks we will be announcing several significant partnerships that are a direct result of our participation in this event.
